On the occasion of the New York Studio School’s 50th Anniversary, Steven Kasher Gallery is pleased to present 12 Painters: The Studio School, 1974/2014. This dynamic exhibition brings together paintings by six artists who studied at the New York Studio School in the early 1970s: Andrea Belag, Robert Bordo, Joyce Pensato, David Reed, Adam Simon, and Christopher Wool; and six Studio School teachers who influenced them:Nicolas Carone, Philip Guston, Mercedes Matter, George McNeil, Steven Sloman, and Jack Tworkov.

Twrkv + New York Studio School: a history

This year the New York Studio School celebrates its 50th anniversary. From humble beginnings, it was founded in1964 by a group of restless students under the leadership of artist, activist, writer and educator Mercedes Matter. Jack Tworkov was instrumental as one of the original artists to contribute to the formation of the school. This is a brief accounting of the history of the Studio School, JT's friendship with Mercedes Matter, and his involvement with the school.

Valerie Carberry to mount the first exhibition to feature the figurative drawings of TWRKV

Valerie Carberry Gallery is pleased to announce Drawing the Figure, an exhibition of drawings by Jack Tworkov that spans four decades. Rothko to Richter at Princeton Art Museum

A gift to the Peggy Guggenheim Collection

Venice, Italy--The Estate of Jack Tworkov is pleased to announce a gift of a major painting to the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Venice, Italy. The painting, titled "Portrait of Z. Sharkey," is an exceptional example of Tworkov's abstract figuration which dominated the artist's oeuvre during the late 1940s. The gift was made by Hermine Ford and Helen Tworkov, daughters of Jack Tworkov, with the assistance of Jason Andrew and Otto and Kirstin Hubner of the American Contemporary Art Gallery, Munich.

Boston, MA - ACME Fine Art is presents the exhibition "Jack Tworkov: Constellation of a Picture," featuring rarely viewed paintings from 1966-1967. The exhibition opens with a reception for the public on Friday, May 2, 2014, 5-8pm, in conjunction with SoWa Boston's May First Friday celebration. Fine Arts Work Center Boston Event

Boston, MA - On Thursday, May 1 Boston’s ACME Fine Art on Harrison Avenue will host a benefit for the Fine Arts Work Center of Provincetown. The benefit will feature an exhibition preview of Jack Tworkov: Constellation of a Picture, a solo exhibit featuring unknown gems from the artist’s estate, most of which have never been shown publicly. Provincetown, MA--The Provincetown Art Association and Museum presents an exhibition co-curated by Pasquale Natale and Midge Battelle titled Couple/Duo. The exhibition considers the creative parallels between duos of one kind or another. It couples poets and painters, sculptors and painters, and painters and painters. Some are friends, some are couples, some are have never met. Each pairing of work - whether similar or dissimilar - shows a relationship of palette, subject matter, composition, narrative, or other element. The exhibition continues through March 30.

Pollock e gli Irascibli - La Scuola di New York opens at Palazzo Reale

The exhibition Pollock e gli Irascibili – La Scuola di New York (Pollock and The Irascibles – The New York School) in the Palazzo Reale displays more than 60 paintings from the collection of the Whitney Museum in New York. It includes work by Jackson Pollock but also by other members of The Irascibles, like Mark Rothko and Willem de Kooning.

TWRKV Featured in “Abstraction Américaine” at Fondation Fernet-Branca, France

Abstraction Américaine opened at the Fondation Fernet-Branca on June 2. Organized by guest curator by Otto Hübner with the assistance of his wife, Kirstin Hübner, and Francesca Pollock, the exhibition brings together signature works of seven 20th-Century American artists, major masters of abstraction, some relatively unknown to the general public in Europe: Hans Hofmann (1880‐1966), Jack Tworkov (1900‐1982), Charles Pollock (1902‐1988), Adolph Gottlieb (1903‐1974), David Smith (1906‐1965), Richard Pousette‐Dart (1916‐1992) and Sam Francis (1923‐1994). The exhibition continues through September 22. A symposium, organized by Otto Hübner was held on June 12 and featured representatives from each artist’s estate. Dr. Philip Rylands, Director of the Peggy Guggenheim Museum, Venice, moderated the symposium.

Abstract Expressionism at Van de Weghe Fine Art

A decade that would see New York City surpass Paris as the capital of the art world.
